A motorcyclist was airlifted following a high-speed collision with another vehicle last Friday morning, April 28, in Jerseyville.

The Jerseyville Police Department (JPD) received a complaint of a southbound motorcycle entering Jerseyville from US Highway 67 at a high rate of speed, late Friday morning, according to JPD Police Chief Brad Blackorby.

“One of our officers attempted a traffic stop, but the motorcycle began to increase its speed,” said Blackorby, “so the officer decided not to actively pursue because of the traffic in town.”

Shortly after the traffic stop attempt was made on State Street in Jerseyville, the motorcycle collided with an SUV at the intersection of S. State Street and West County Road in front of Dennis Ford State Farm, around 11:20 a.m.

The driver of the motorcycle was airlifted from the scene, according to Blackorby, but no one else was taken to the hospital from the scene.

The intersection, as well as portions of State Street remained closed for several hours following the crash.

Responding to and assisting with the accident were JPD, Jersey County Sheriff’s Office, JCH Ambulance, ARCH Air Medical Services, and Illinois State Police (ISP) District 18.

ISP is handling the crash investigation and reconstruction. No further information about the accident or the condition of the motorcyclist was available at press time.
