Routt rally ruins Cougar’s bid for title

Routt scored a run in the seventh inning and rallied to beat West Central 6-5 in the championship game of the WIVC Baseball Tournament May 9 in Jacksonville.
The Cougars trailed 4-3 but scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead.
Ryker Ford reached on a fielder’s choice with two out in the fourth inning. Ford stole second base and scored on single by Tyson Brown to tie the game.
Mason Berry doubled to lead off the fifth inning, and Carson Brown walked. Dalton Hutton singled with one out to drive in Berry to give West Central a 5-4 lead.
Routt scored a run in the sixth inning to tie the game and won the game in the seventh.
West Central scored three runs to take the lead in the third inning.
Ford singled to start the inning, and Cameron Sievers singled with one out. Berry singled to drive in Ford with the first run of the game. Sievers scored when Carson Brown singled. Berry scored when Landyn Woods reached on a fielder’s choice.
Routt would come back with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Tyson Brown allowed six runs and nine hits. He walked just one batter and struck out three.
Berry went 2-for-3 with a double, scored two runs and drove in one run for West Central’s offense. Sievers went 2-for-4 and scored one run, and Tyson Brown went 2-for-4 and drove in one run.
Ford went 1-fo-3 and scored two runs. Hutton (1-for-4), Woods (1-for-4) and Carson Brown (1-for-3) each had one hit and drove in a run. Caden Meyer (1-for-4) also had a hit.
Hutton allowed just three hits over six and two-thirds innings, and West Central beat Brown County 3-0 in the tournament semifinals May 8 in Jacksonville.
The Cougars scored runs in the first, third and six inning to come away with the win.
Tyson Brown had two hits to lead West Central. Cameron Sievers tripled drove in a run. Berry and Carson Brown each had a hit and drove in a run.
Hutton struck out nine and walked just two batters in the game. Sievers got the final out to secure the save.
