Debra Ann Helton | 57 | Carrollton

Debra Ann Helton, age 57 of Carrollton, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023 at her residence. She was born Jan. 30, 1966 in Carrollton. She married Charles Helton III Oct. 17, 1987 in Carrollton and he survives.
She is also survived by her mother, Georgia (Khlantzos) Garner of Carrollton; a daughter, Charlene Helton of Fishers, IN; a son, Charles Helton IV of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Susan (Mike) Robinson of Eldred; and cousins and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Camerer, and a step-father, Moe Garner.
Debra graduated from Carrollton High School in 1984, she then received a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology and Audiology in 1987 from SIU Edwardsville and a Master of Science in Speech Pathology in 1988 from SIU. Debra also received a Master of Art in Education Administration from UIS. Debra served as past president for Carrollton School District. She was currently the assistant cross-country coach for Carlinville High School. She was a nominee for State of Illinois Representative for the 97th district. Debra enjoyed her trips to the capitol in Springfield with her mentor, Joyce Morrison where they lobbied legislators in favor of Christian conservative issues with their group, Ladies of Love. Debra was currently serving as Republican precinct committee woman for Linder Township. Debra was a certified member of ASHA and ISHA since 1989, and she was the director for legislative affairs for ISHA. She has been a Speech Language Pathologist since 1988 serving many hospitals, nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, schools, home health, and special education facilities throughout many counties and states. She shared her Psalm 71 testimony with many patients and families across the nation having tremendous impact for Jesus and his Kingdom. Her final day on this earth was a beautiful day bathed by Christian praise and celebration. In her final moments, she shed tears of joy as she surrendered her will to God’s plan. Debra was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton. Debra lived a life of excellence, and she whole heartily supported her family in all of their endeavors and was the driving force behind their success.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton with burial to follow in Eldred Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church and from 10 a.m. until the time of mass on Friday at the church with a prayer service at 3 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to St. John’s School Cafeteria Project or Boyd Hospital. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in charge of arrangements.
