The Jerseyville City Council held a meeting on Tuesday, addressing several items pertaining to summer events in the city.
The council began the meeting with a discussion on a motion to approve an extension of the temporary moratorium on the location of adult-use cannabis establishments and paraphernalia businesses in Jerseyville until Dec. 13, 2023. The motion was passed. The next item brought up was a discussion and possible motion to approve a resolution approving the closure of the south end of Magnolia Drive. After a brief discussion, the motion was passed as well.
The third item brought before the council was a motion to possibly approve the reappointment of an Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) resolution to close state highway 67 for the Jersey County Fair parade on July 11, from 5 to 9 p.m. The council approved the motion with no extended discussion.
The next item on the agenda was a possible motion to approve the reappointment of Don Breitweiser to the planning and zoning board term to expire in April 2028. The appointment was approved.
The final two items were both possible reappointments to a planning and zoning board. The two appointees were James Frazier and Jeff Heitzig. Both appointments were approved. Fraziers will expire April 2029, and Heitzig will expire April 2025.
The final mentions of the meeting included information about Rock the Block on June 30. The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. with entertainment headed up by the Owlz Band.
Applications are also being accepted for Director of Tourism and Community Development. With no public comment or other business, the meeting was adjourned.
The Jerseyville City Council meets every other Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
