From the desk of Pastor David Slagle.
Having taken a few days off at the church I feel like I can’t wait to walk in through the church doors and be where I am supposed to be. It’s always good to get away but it’s also good to feel you are where you are supposed to be. We were busy those two days we were away. Our son in-law, daughter, my wife and myself took our three great grandsons to the Decatur Zoo and on a picnic at the zoo. Everyone enjoyed the day, even the oldest of the group, yours truly. It was swimming time at the hotel and that really made the day. The Boys slept sound as did we. Some shopping on Saturday, more pool time and home Monday night.
Monday was a sad but happy day as Judy and I drove to Roseville, Illinois to attend the funeral service of our great friend and brother in Christ George Campbell. It was a beautiful service and a wonderful surprise for all as George had recorded his two favorite gospel songs before he went home to his eternal home, Beulah Land and This Old House. George and Sand had the singing group called Servants Hearts and they sang a lot with Dennis and Dee Cunningham-Serenity Sound. The four of them sang at our church a number of times. Dennis passed Jan. 6, 2022. Really do miss those great servants of God.
This coming Sunday, Aug. 20, Joe Arview will be in concert during our 10:30 a.m. morning worship time. He has been serving the Lord through his music since 1993. There will be a freewill offering received and a luncheon will follow the concert.
Our message this Sunday was from 1 Cor. 1:18-25: “Imagine life without Jesus.”
John Lennon had a big hit song titled “Imagine.” In that song he said this : Imagine there’s no countries, it’s not hard to do, nothing to kill or die for, no religion too, imagine all the people living life in peace.
These words and concepts were straight out of “Grapefruit” a book of poetry by his wife Yoko Ono. He believed the world would be better with no religion of sort. That means no Jesus Christ. Just think about this. What would life be like for us if Jesus Christ never came to the Earth? He was saying that one of the reasons why there is no peace in the world is because of religion.
Our recent prayer requests are Sandy Campbell, Randy Dorothy, Jane’s two sisters, Harold, Robby, Job, Joe.
Don’t forget the concert Sunday, Aug. 20, at 10:30 a.m. all are welcome. Wednesday evening Bible Study at 6:30 p.m., topic “what about the children.”
