The West Central Cougars head to Salt Fork in Vermillion County Saturday to take on the Catlin Salt Fork Stones. The Cougars are 6-3. The Stones are 7-2 with wins over Hoopeston/Armstrong, Iroquis West, Watseka, Bismarck Henning/Rossville, Alvin Georgetown Ridge Farm/Chrisman, Oakwood and Clifton Central. Their two loses came at the hands of Westville and Moment.
Both teams will be sporting the black, white and silver colors and the the similarities don’t end there.
“They run the ball 80 percent of the time, just like we do,” Matt Coultas, varsity coach of the Cougars said. “But, they will take what the defense gives them. They can pass the ball.”
Coultas said the film provided to him to study the Stones, didn’t provide a lot of information, but he said he thinks his offense will be looking at a 4- man front most of the game..
“They are quick, but I think we are a little quicker,” he said. “Neither of us has a lot of size.”
The Cougars will be led by Chance Little, average 80.8 yards rushing, Ryker Ford, 35 yards per game passing, Little also has 100.4 total yards per game, Carson Brown leads the defense with 11.1 tackles per game and Conner Turner is the go-to man when the Cougars need a score, averaging 8.9 points per game.
Coultas said his team will have to play after a 3-hour bus ride, but he is confident they will come off the bus ready to play.
Game time is at 2 p.m..
