Last year Southwestern went 16-16 overall and 4-5 in conference play with wins against Staunton, Gillespie, Vandalia and Hillsboro.
This year the boys started the season out going 2-2 at the Roxana Hoopsgiving Classic.
Civic Memorial hit the Piasa Birds hard in their first match taking a 53-27 win over Southwestern, and faced a 69-52 loss against Carbondale. The Piasa Birds wrapped up the Hoopsgiving Classic taking a 53-52 win against the Jersey Panthers and a 61-50 win against Staunton with Ian Brantley was named to the All Tournament Team.
The Southwestern Lady Piasa Birds have already started the season with a 3-2 record after taking a big win over North Greene and two wins at the Nokomis Turkey Tourney.
The Birds fell to New Berlin in a close first match of the season, 34-33, before taking a 52-21 win against the North Greene Spartans with Vivian Zurheide putting up 26 points for Southwestern.
At the Nokomis tournament they had a 36-28 win against Pawnee, 32-22 loss against Nokomis and 35-17 win against Lincolnwood.
