Jerseyville City Council approved the 2024 Tax Levy Ordinance, with no modifications after posting for public viewing, at the Tuesday, Dec. 12, council meeting.
A motion was approved during the meeting for a business registration ordinance after concerns about new businesses coming into town and not being the proper zoning area.
It was stated that the ordinance is very common throughout the state. Not only does the registration help to ensure businesses are in the correct zoning areas it allows the police and fire departments to know what types of hazardous materials are stored in the business incase of a fire or emergency.
There will be a $25 business registration fee and fees for 2024 will be waived. The ordinance is set to take effect at the start of May.
A resolution for remote meeting attendance rules was also adopted by the council. It was stated that during Covid remote attendance was necessary and required, but to allow remote attendance now a policy of rules needed to be adopted. The rules still allow for remote attendance for illness, unexpected child care obligations, personal employment reasons, medical and family emergencies.
A motion was also approved for a proposal from Water Odyssey for splash pad equipment that will be installed during phase two of Lion’s Club Park improvements.
With the American Water grant the city received they’re able pre-purchase this equipment and have it fabricated while other planning is done, so it will be ready when needed.
In other business a lease and joint use agreement between the city and the Illinois Valley Economic Development Corporation was approved by the council for the use of the Susnig Complex, and council meeting dates for 2024 were approved.
