West Central scored 15 straight points in the first half and beat Griggsville-Perry 56-40 in boys basketball Dec. 15 at Winchester..
Griggsville-Perry led 11-8 in the first quarter. Carson Brown scored to narrow the margin to 11-10 and made one of two free throw attempts to tie the game at 11. The quarter ended tied at 11.
Zack Evans made two three-point baskets to start the second quarter, and West Central led 17-11. Ryker scored off an assist from Evans, and he grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to extend the lead to 23-8 with 3 minutes remaining in the first half.
Griggsville-Perry did not score until 2:35 remained in the second quarter. West Central led 30-17 at halftime.
Griggsville-Perry cut the West Central lead to just 31-27 in the third quarter. The Cougars scored the next nine points and led 40-27 after three quarters.
Nick Hamilton started the run with a layup to give West Central a 33-27 lead. Brown and Evans both scored, and Hamilton made a three-point basket with 45 seconds remaining in the quarter to increase the lead back to 13 points.
Chance Little made one of two free throws to start the fourth quarter. Ryker Ford made a three-point basket, and West Central led 43-27 with 7:04 remaining in the game.
Evans scored 20 points to lead West Central (8-2, 3-0 in the WIVC). Little scored 12 points.
Brown and Ford each scored seven points. Hamilton and Cameron Sievers each scored five points.
Griggsville-Perry won the junior varsity game 65-51.
Blayne Sidwell scored 18 points, and Anthony Hance scored 11. Carson Clevenger scored eight points, and Zac Howard scored seven. Charlie Smith scored five points, and Leighton Smith scored two.
