Zack Evans scored 32 points to lead West Central to 69-46 win over PORTA/A-C Central Jan. 9 in the semifinals of the Winchester Invitational Tournament.
The Cougars trailed 31-26 with 2 minutes remaining in the second quarter. They scored the next 21 points to take control of the game.
Ryker Ford made a three-point basket off an assist from Chance Little. Evans made two free throws to tie the game with 1:04 remaining. Evans grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to give West Central a 33-31 lead at halftime.
West Central scored the first 14 points of the third quarter to increase the lead to 47-31.
Evans scored twice with both baskets coming off assists from Little. Evans had a steal and converted a three-point play, and West Central led 40-31 with 5:39 remaining in the quarter.
Little scored, and Ford followed with a three-point basket. Little scored, and West Central led by 16 points with 3:22 remaining in the quarter.
Evans scored with 12 seconds remaining, and the Cougars led 54-38 after three quarters.
Ford started the fourth quarter with a three-point basket that extended the lead to 57-38. The Cougars led by as many as 25 points, 69-44, after Caden Meyer scored in the final minutes.
PORTA/A-C Central made four three-point baskets and led 20-16 after the first quarter.
West Central trailed 20-13 before Cameron Sievers made a three-point basket at the buzzer.
The Cougars scored 15 points after grabbing offensive rebounds. They scored eight points in the third quarter after Little grabbed offensive rebounds. Evans converted two offensive rebounds into baskets in the game.
Evans scored 12 points in the second quarter and made nine of 10 free attempts in the game.
Ford scored 13 points and made three three-point baskets.
Little scored nine points, and Sievers scored five. Brown and Meyer each scored four points. Mason Berry scored two points
