West Central scored the first 16 points of the third quarter and beat Routt 54-48 in boys basketball Jan. 30 at Bluffs.
Routt led 21-19 at halftime. The Cougars outscored Routt 22-8 in the third quarter.
Mason Berry made a three-point basket to start the quarter and give West Central the lead.
Zack Evans scored, and Ryker Ford made a three-point to extend the lead to 27-21. Evans and Carson Brown each scored four points, and the Cougars led 35-21 with 3:16 remaining in the quarter.
Routt mad two free throws with 3:04 remaining and did not make its first field goal with 2:06 remaining in the quarter.
Caden Meyer made a three-point basket at the buzzer to give the Cougars a 41-29 lead.
Brown scored, Evans had dunk after a Routt turnover and Ford made a three-point basket to increase the lead to 48-31 with 4:41 remaining in the game.
Mason Berry made two free throws with 7.7 seconds remaining in the game after Routt cut the margin to 52-46
The Cougars trailed 12-4 in the first quarter. Chance Little grabbed an offensive rebound and scored, and Berry scored off an assist from Brown to cut the margin to four points.
Evans scored after Little grabbed an offensive rebound, and West Central led 17-16. Brown scored to give the Cougars a 19-18 lead before Routt scored the last three points of the first half.
Evans scored 19 points to lead the winners (22-3 and 6-0 in the WIVC). Brown scored 12 points.
Berry and Little each scored seven points. Ford scored six points, and Meyer scored three.
West Central won the junior varsity game 42-39.
Gabe Howard scored 16 points to lead the Cougars. Carson Clevenger and Charlie Smith each scored seven points. Nick Hamilton and Zac Howard each scored six points. Anthony Hance scored two points.
