Brylee Lawson suffered a season ending injury in West Central’s softball game at Greenfield-Northwestern.
Greenfield-Northwestern was playing West Central in softball while the baseball team was playing Pawnee. The softball field is located to left of the baseball field.
Lawson, who is a junior, was sitting in the West Central dugout as the Cougars were batting. A foul ball from the baseball somehow curved into the Cougars’ dugout and hit Lawson in the side of the head.
Lawson never lost consciousness.
A paramedic, who was at the game, helped West Central Coach Michelle Weber attend to Lawson. They laid Lawson on the ground when she started to feel nauseous.
Two men helped Lawson walk to an ambulance when it arrived. The game was delayed for almost an hour.
Lawson attended West Central’s game with North Greene the following day.
Along with playing softball, Lawson also is a member of the West Central volleyball, basketball and track teams. She helped the Cougars win a regional basketball championship this past season.
