The fish were biting Saturday at the 35th Annual Two Rivers Family Fishing Fair. The day included a ton of activities for young anglers including the chance to cast their lines into the bluegill pond at Pere Marquette State Park.
Anglers of all ages gathered at Pere Marquette State Park on Saturday for the 35th Annual Two Rivers Family Fishing Fair.
This year’s event featured more than 30 different stations for families to stop at and learn about a number of different outdoor activities, outdoor safety and the environment.
Young anglers were able to cast their lines into the bluegill and trout pounds while having the opportunity to learn what it means to be a good fisherman as well as learn about fly fishing, frog gigging, jug fishing, bow fishing, water safety and native wildlife.
“We want to get kids hooked on fishing, and the Family Fishing Fair helps connect kids and families to fun outdoor activities,” Scott Isringhausen, Illinois Department of National Resources Urban Fishing Coordinator, said. “Thanks to our generous sponsors, we are able to continue to offer this free event. We are very fortunate to have the support of the Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery as a Premier Sponsor, along with Farm and Home Supply, the Jersey County Board, Walmart, State Farm Insurance of Jerseyville and Carrollton, and many others.”
Kids who stopped at least seven of the stations throughout the day got the chance to fish in the trout. Once they were done at the trout pond, the young anglers were able to take their catch to get cleaned and fried.
