The North Greene School Board had intended to replace the concession stand and bathrooms at the football field for this upcoming football season but those plans had to be put on hold with time running out before the start of the football season.
The district limped through this past football season dealing with plumbing issues at the football field and at the February school board meeting the board decided it was time to address those issues. The district had the same problems the previous year and did a quick fix, but it was not a lasting solution.
So, at the February board meeting the board took action to engage an architect to come up and start a conversation about what the district’s options are.
Currently, there are no doors on the stalls in the restrooms – just shower curtains and there is no ADA compliant toilet installed in the building. As for the concession stand – it has no hot water.
Then, at the May meeting, the district hired the firm of Cordogan and Clark of St. Louis to be the construction firm doing the renovation or rebuild and Rick Keisker as the District Architect.
In their first meeting, Keisker talked about addressing the project in phases, partly because of the ADA compliance issues, taking care of those first.
Originally, they were contemplating perhaps using portable restrooms and continuing to use the concession stand for one more year since its condition isn’t as bad as the restrooms.
“We know those issues are going to have to be addressed eventually, but it is looking like they may have to wait until the 25-26 season,” Superintendent Jackie Kuchy said. “We meet with the architect next week and they have our 10-year Health, Life, Safety survey completed. They were on site and met with the Building Committee regarding the concession stand and they are supposed to have some suggestions for us in this meeting on what some of our options are.”
Kuchy said, however, that for this year, they are out of time to do anything and have it completed in time for football season.
“There is a difference in theory of what all we could put into this renovation or rebuild,” she said. “But we have got to know what the absolute non-negotiables are and then we can start dreaming beyond that and see what kind of funding and support we are going to get.”
