The Jerseyville City Council approved an ordinance to restrict street parking during school hours at the most recent council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The motion to approve an ordinance restricting parking on South Liberty Street between West County Road and Fletcher Street, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on school days, was unanimously approved.
With the middle school changing the morning and afternoon pickup and dropoff procedures, the council approved the motion to help create a buffer zone to allow for visibility and help ensure the safety of students.
In other new business, the council approved a $1,000 tourism grant application submitted by the Jerseyville TEENS Program for their annual Pickleball Tournament scheduled for Friday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 22, at Wittman Park. A motion to approve resolution A Contract was also approved, as well as a motion for road closures for Friday’s Rock the Block concert featuring the Jake Maurer Band. Roads will be closed Friday afternoon until approximately 11 p.m. and include East Arch Street from State Street to Jefferson Street, Jefferson Street from East Arch Street to East Pearl Street, the alleyway from East Prairie Street to East Arch Street and part of the alleyway from East Arch Street to East Pearl Street.
Before closing the meeting, the council reminded the public that the annual oil and chip seal program is scheduled to start on Sept. 9 and that the front entrance of the Police Department is still currently closed due to construction. A list of streets that are set to be oil and chip-sealed can be found online at jerseyville-il.us. Those needing to visit the Police Department can use the east side door to speak with an officer.
The next Jerseyville City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m.
