Gertrude ‘Gertie’ Snyders | 79 | Meppen

Gertrude “Gertie” (Bick) Snyders, 79, of Meppen, died on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton, IL.
Born July 9, 1945, in Batchtown, daughter of the late Carl and Anna (Klaas) Bick. Gertie married the love of her life, Gary W. Snyders on July 1, 1967, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Meppen, and together they have shared 57 years of marriage.
Gertie centered her life around her family and her faith. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and proud grandmother. Throughout her children’s lives, she was a constant and steady source of strength and unwavering love and support. As they began families of their own, she wore the title of “Mama” with immense pride and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Perhaps the greatest joys in her life came from time spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their sporting events (softball being her favorite) and every birthday and milestone she could.
Gertie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Meppen and the Brussels American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gambling at the local casinos, playing BINGO, and making afghans for her family and friends. She also loved making desserts and was known for her pies and turtles.
Gertie is survived by her husband Gary, her two children, Scott Snyders of Elsah and Terri (John) Rexing of Grafton, and her siblings and in-laws, Delmar (Barb) Bick, Shirleen (Bick) McCarey, Lindy (Martha) Bick, Judy Bick, Jack (Elaine) Snyders, Shirley Ewen and Robert (John Seabaugh) Snyders. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Paige and Jarrett (Sarah Bogard) Snyders, Thomas and Lauren Rexing, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law, Harry and Mildred Snyders, her siblings and in-laws, Steve and Elizabeth “Betty” (Bick) Keeton, Kenneth “Kenny” Bick, Donald “Donny” Bick, Norman and Alice Snyders and Larry Ewen.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Brussels.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Meppen with Fr. Don Roberts celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Meppen.
