An involuntary petition in bankruptcy was recently filed in Federal Court at St. Louis against C.J. Gonterman, doing business as the C.J. Gonterman Realty and Development Co., by creditors, who allege that Gonterman owes them. The News has been reliably informed that a number of south Calhoun citizens are among the creditors that have been caught in this trap. We are informed that the amount of money the south Calhoun citizens lost in this wild investment will reach in the neighborhood of $41,000.

The automobile situation might be considered much easier now that cars are beginning to be abandoned and left by the roadside.Two more of the friendless machines were moved into Hardin Thanksgiving Day by Henry Triplett, serviceman at Holloway’s Garage. Triplett was acting under orders of a state highway patrolman. One of the cars, partly wrecked, had been standing by the roadside above Mozier for about three weeks. The other has been parked along Route 100 two miles above Hardin for a long time. Two of the tires had been removed from the Mozier car.

A contract to construct a new postal facility in Brussels has been awarded to Carl H. Wittmond of Brussels, according to Walter Dyer, Manager of Public Information for the Central Region. The Postal Service will lease the building for ten years with four renewal options of five years each. Carol Sue Carnes is the Brussels Postmaster.

Construction and installation of Calhoun County’s Phase Two rural water project are just about ready to be wrapped up. Contractor Tim Kane of Kane Mechanical, Inc. in Wood River reported at the last Calhoun County Rural Water District meeting that he is down to only two items. There is a driveway which goes over the water main and it undermined the driveway. It was repacked, and they are waiting to hear if the customer is satisfied. The second is that there were three wrong tandem setters in meters. Their pressure readings were too high. Kane was hoping to get this work completed that week.
