The telephone line and exchange of Hardin changed ownership again last week. Henry Narup, who has been troubleman on the line for the past year is the new owner. Mr. Narup purchased the system of Wm. Gress who has been owner of the system for the past eight or ten months. The purchasing price we learn, was $7,000. Mr. Narup is an experienced telephone man. He informed us that he expects to place the lines in good serviceable shape.

Another one of Hardin’s ancient and beautiful trees was cut down last week. This one was in the courtyard and it had become so old and rotten it had to be done away with. However, we believed the town should start a program of replanting trees because all of the ones we now have are old and will not last much longer. We think a town’s beauty is greatly improved by pretty trees lining its streets. They do damage to sidewalks, it is true, but their stately stature and beauty, plus shade on a hot day, greatly offsets any hindrances they might have.

A family-style dinner was enjoyed at the Barefoot Restaurant for the Hardin Lion’s Club Christmas party by its members and their guests. Club President Dr. Kermit Bell distributed Lion’s pins to David Anderson for 15 years as a Lion, to Letha Simon for ten years, to James A. Ringhausen for 25 years and to Lawrence Simon for 25 years. District Governor Dale Schmalz of Highland gave an interesting talk following the dinner. He is visiting the 68 clubs in his district.
