Three players scored in double figures to lead West Central to a 63-39 win over Brown County in boys’ basketball Nov. 6 at Mt. Sterling.
Brown County beat West Central 55-50, Nov 30, in the championship game of the Beardstown Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Cougars scored the first 10 points of the game and never trailed in this game.
Nick Hamilton scored to start the game. Ryker Ford and Cameron Sievers both made three-point baskets and increase the lead to 8-0. Caden Meyer scored, and West Central led 10-0 with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter.
Brown County narrowed the margin to 13-10 after one quarter. The Cougars led 22-20 at halftime after a last second basket by Brown County was ruled to have come after time had expired.
Carson Brown scored four points, and Ford scored to extend the lead to 28-20 with 5:54 remaining in third quarter to increase the lead to 28-20. Brown County made a three-point basket to cut the margin to 28-23, but that would be the only points they would score in the quarter.
The Cougars finished the third quarter on an 11-0 run. Brown scored again, and Ford made a three-point basket to start the run. Zac Howard made a free throw, and Blayne Sidwell scored to increase the lead to 36-23.
Hamilton made a three-point basket with 5 seconds remaining, and West Central led 39-23 after three quarters.
Brown scored, and Hamilton made two free throws as West Central increased their lead to 43-23 early in the fourth quarter. Brown County never got closer than 16 points during the remainder of the game.
Hamilton led West Central (5-1) with 17 points, and Brown scored 16. Ford scored 11 points. Both players scored 11 points in the second half. Ford scored 11 points with seven coming in the second half.
Sievers scored eight points, and Meyer scored six. Sidwell scored four points, and Zac Howard scored one.
Brown County won the junior varsity game 52-45.
Charlie Smith scored 12 points for the Cougars. Parker Eddinger scored eight points, and Landon Wahl scored seven. Gabe Howard scored four points, and Preston Adams scored four. Eli Crain, Curtis Renner and Leighton Smith each scored two points.
