The Jersey County Board held a regular board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and approved the new committee appointments following the board’s reorganizational meeting and swearing-in of new board members early this month.
During the county officials’ reports, the County Clerk discussed a resolution regarding fees charged by the County Recorder of Deeds.
County Clerk Pam Warford said fees are not increasing, but a revision in statutes requires the fees to be posted in a certain manner to comply with the statute.
The County Code Administrator presented an update to the hazard mitigation plan that was adopted in 2020. Code Administrator Derek Russell explained the plan gets reevaluated and updated every five years.
“It lists out the hazards of the county, ways to mitigate it, critical facilities that are listed in the county. To have this plan in place also qualifies us for natural disaster funding. So if there was a major event in the county we would have to have this plan in place to receive funding,” Russell said.
A motion to appoint Dr. Leo Dizon, Nancy Griffith, and Ben Goetten to the Jersey County Board of Health with terms expiring in November of 2027, along with Dr. Brian Sneath with a term set to expire in November 2025, was passed. The appointments of Shane Winters, Steve Pohlman and Kevin Klaas to the Jersey County ETSB/911 Board, with terms starting in January of 2025 and expiring in 2027, also passed.
The board also approved a motion to post the tax levy for review.
Chairman Gary Krueger said nothing is changing and no truth in taxation hearing will be required but the levy had been misprinted and the 2022 levy was printed by mistake.
The board will be meeting again on Thursday, Dec. 26, at 9 a.m. for a special meeting to approve the final levy amounts for the 2024 taxes payable in 2025.
