Jerseyville City Council met on Monday, Dec. 23, to discuss a few tourism matters before the Christmas holiday.
During the meeting, council approved a resolution regarding a letter of support recognizing Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau as the certified destination marketing organization (DMO) for the City of Jerseyville.
The city said they’re working with Great Rivers and Routes as their primary marketing organization and utilizing them for tourism marketing throughout the state.
As a state certified DMO, Mayor Kevin Stork said the letter of support will assist Great Rivers and Routes as they seek state and federal funding.
Council also approved $3,000 for a half-page ad in the Great Rivers and Routes Go Guide. The ad will be dedicated to events within the City of Jerseyville to promote tourism in the city and encourage visitors to the area.
The guide is printed every year and Great Rivers and Routes takes them to all the conventions and seminars they attend to help promote the area.
The city didn’t advertise in the guide last year but with the new splash pad and other activities going on in the city, the city felt it was a good opportunity to develop and build a relationship with Great Rivers and Routes to promote the City of Jerseyville.
Council also approved an item amending the zoning at 108 West County Road from R-2 to B-1 with the intended use as a parking lot, as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Board. The request was submitted by Danny Phipps on behalf of Property Owner Investors Group LLC.
Before taking action on the tourism items and the zoning item, council approved the bills in the amount of approximately $801,600. It was stated that the bills were a little higher due to some extra costs like expenses for the new splash pad that will be at Lions Club Park.
City Council is scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 6 p.m.
