Norman W. Hoyt, 90, of Dow, IL, passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2025, at Jerseyville Manor surrounded by his family.Born to the late Fred and Dora (Henry) Hoyt in Rosedale, IL on May 17, 1934. He graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1953.
Norman married Ruth Ann Highfill on June 23, 1956, at Grafton Methodist Church, together they shared 64 years of marriage before her passing on Sept. 24, 2020.
He served his country in the US Army from 1956-1958. Retiring in 1991 from McDonnell Douglas after 35 years working the flight line. He spent his later years checking off the honey do list, working on his farm, hunting and spending quality time with his family and friends. He was a member of Dow Southern Baptist Church and a long-standing member of the Elsah Township Board of Trustees. His legacy of quick wit, knowing no stranger and being the neighborhood egg man will live on in those who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter Theresa (Jeff) Vinson; his son Dale (Jackie) Hoyt; his four grandchildren: MaTyka (Kevin) Kulp, JoAnna (Will) McAnulty, MaTyna (Chris) Fessler, and Alan (Linley) Hoyt; his seven great-grandchildren: Shelby and Hayden Kulp, Cheyenne, Addison & Evan Fessler, Ellee & Russell Hoyt and his loyal four-legged companion, Maggie.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill (Betty) Hoyt, Ione (Virgil) Czaia, Milton (Helen) Hoyt, and Hope (Louie) Blackorby.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at Dow Southern Baptist Church. Pastor David Brown will officiate. Burial was at Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dow Southern Baptist Church. Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
