Rachel Ilene Slone | 27 | Hamburg
Rachel Ilene Slone, age 27, of Hamburg, passed away unexpectedly in her residence on the evening of March 16, 2025. She was born in Alton, IL on June 14, 1997, to her parents Lynn (Charlton) Slone and Kenneth Slone. Rachel was a loving mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.
Rachel was a kind and caring woman with a full heart, courage and an everlasting joy to be remembered. She loved spending time with her family. She would often be found playing Dungeons & Dragons with her cousins or cracking jokes with her dad. Rachel and her mother were so close that they almost acted like sisters at times. She was also a good listener and liked to help people whenever she could. She was the one person her sister could talk to when writing her book series. They also enjoyed going to musicals and watching their favorite movies together.
Rachel was resilient. Around the age of 15, she was diagnosed with juvenile onset epilepsy. Though it made life difficult at times, her determination to overcome her obstacles and set goals was admired and appreciated by those who knew her.
She was proud to be a correctional officer and later had a desire to work with children at Calhoun Elementary School and Acorn. Recently, she was studying to become a medical assistant. Her determination in life to overcome her obstacles and set goals can be admired and appreciated by others.
Rachel was most proud of her 3 year old son Miles. He was the light of her life and she loved him with her whole heart. She was a wonderful and caring mom. Her empathy for animals and her kind heart is already reflected in him.
Rachel also enjoyed reading books, drawing in her sketchbooks, journaling, family trips to Branson, camping and gold panning with her dad, spending time with her cousins, listening to podcasts, watching disney movies, scary movies and true crime, quoting movies and tv shows as well as goofing around with her sister, and laughing with her family.
Rachel is survived by her son, Miles Depper; her mother, Lynn (Charlton) Slone; father, Ken (Vicky) Slone; sister, Kendra (Pete) Breden; step-sister, Kaity (Trenton) Kingery; step-brother, Kenny (Melissa) Hitch; nephews, Eric, Carter, Ryan and Sean; grandmothers, Shirley Slone and Sylvia Hitchings; aunts and uncles, Melissa (Scott) Akers, Dennis (Tammy) Slone, Anita (Marcus) Wassell, Donald Hitchings Jr., Pam (Reggie) Ruyle, Cindy Buschmann, Bryan Charlton, Brandi Gollihar and many cousins.
She is preceded in death by: Donald Hitchings Sr. (grandfather), Lisa Hitchings (aunt), Albert Slone (grandfather), Bill Charlton (grandfather), Bill and Ilene Whitworth (great grandparents) and John and Jennifer Hitchings (aunt and uncle).
Visitation was held at Gress, Kallal, & Schaaf funeral home on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral service at 11 a.m.
