Janet Sue Straus | 76 | Lakeland, FL

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Janet Sue Straus, age 76, on Feb. 7, 2025 at her home in Lakeland, Florida. Janet was born on July 11, 1948 in Quincy, IL. The first child of John Richard Hannant and Mary Louise (Burke) Hannant, Janet grew up on the family farm outside of Perry, IL with her three siblings. She met her husband Michael in grade school. They married after high school graduation and would be celebrating 58 years of marriage on May 30, 2025.
Janet graduated from Gem City College and worked various office and retail jobs, including several years with the Disney Store. She and Michael lived in many locations across the US. Including: Arizona, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas and Ohio before retiring in Florida. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Janet cherished her family. In her retirement, Janet enjoyed frequent visits to Disney World and loved spending her time reading, gardening, and enjoying Florida’s sunshine. As well as making trips to California to see her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Straus; daughter, Misha (Thomas) and two grandchildren. Siblings, Gary (Cindy) Hannant of Rushville, IL, Debbie (Carrel) Smith of Griggsville, IL and Rick (Linda) Hannant of Griggsville, IL. She was proceeded in death by her parents and nephew, Michael.
Janet will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her quick wit and her devotion to her family. Her sense of humor will echo in our hearts forever. She will be greatly missed by all.
A funeral service will be held at the Perry United Methodist Church in Perry, IL on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at 3 p.m. Burial will be in the Wilson/McCord Cemetery in Perry, IL. A dinner will be held for family and friends at the Perry United Methodist Church at 5 p.m. following the committal.
