Speaking of apple blossoms, there were a lot of disappointed folks around here over the weekend. All preparations had been made for a big weekend, but cold winds and weeping skies, not to speak of unopened buds, made the whole countryside look sick. And now Calhouners are looking forward to the weekend of May 6-7. A certain Calhoun prophet has been getting a lot of razzing for predicting the peak of the blossom season for May 10, but it now looks as though he will miss it only a few days. Roy Wieneke of Batchtown was in Hardin Saturday morning. He said the buds in his orchards were still waiting for sunshine. Roadworkers all over the county had taken such pains to have their roads in tiptop shape for visitors. Now they are disgusted at the prospect of having to do over all their work.

Niemi, Chief of the Engineering Division, told the News this week. “This problem was brought to the attention of the Corps of Engineers in April 1974. Since that time, numerous field trips have been made and meetings with local landowners and city officials have been held in regard to the problem,” Niemi said.

Appointments for the Village of Hardin for the fiscal year were made by Mayor Bill Horman at the trustees meeting. The one surprise was that Mary Ann Patton publicly announced her retirement as Village Clerk as of August 31. She will retain this position for four more months. June Swan will continue to be her assistant until at least that same date.
