The Grove Memorial Park was busy Saturday morning as local Author Jackie Duty and Dash the Dachshund joined young readers and artists for a reading and book signing in Grafton.
In her book “Dash the Dachshund,” written and illustrated by Duty, Duty tells the story of Dash’s adventure learning about acceptance, friendship, and learning to embrace what makes each and every one of us unique.
Duty said she believes that just one book has the ability to change a child’s life and was excited to be in Grafton with free copies of her book for children in attendance to help spark their interest in reading and inspire their imaginations.
Just about every child in attendance raised their hand when Duty asked if any of them were artists, and Saturday’s event was the perfect chance for them to explore some of their creativity. A dance party with Elsa, stencil painting projects with local artist Lou Ann Branz and a reading from Duty gave the kids an opportunity to express their creativity in different ways and learn a little about the various styles of expression.
Duty also thanked the local sponsors who helped supply the free books for the children in attendance. Saturday’s Reading in the Park is just the beginning of the summer fun that will be happening at Grove Memorial Park as Grafton’s Music in the Park returns this month.
Grafton’s Music in the Park takes place every Thursday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Grove Memorial. The summer music series will start on Thursday, May 29, with Starlifter-Scott Air Force Base Rock Band.
