May 14, 1925
Scarlet fever has again made its appearance in Hardin. Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tavernier, residing in the north part of town, is reported to be sick with the disease. The tavernier home is under quarantine.

A very happy group of kids gathered around the entrance to the rejuvenated town hall Tuesday evening for the opening of the Town Hall Theater. Sharing their exuberance in a little quieter manner, a couple of hundred adults also waited for their chance to get into the building. Those who had not yet seen the interior of the building were agreeably surprised when they passed through.

Most of an oil spill on the Illinois River at Meredosia dispersed before it reached Calhoun County but workers and their equipment met in Hardin and worked upstream trying to clean up the oil. A huge silt screen was towed behind a tug boat in an attempt to contain 10,000 gallons of fuel oil that erupted from a broken pipe line owned by Texaco Oil Co. The worst effect of the spill, which covered only parts of the river, will be damage to the banks.

High school students of Calhoun were given the opportunity to express their opinions, ideas, adn concerns in the county’s first Youth Speakout. Approximately 10 areas of concerns surfaced from a survey and these formed the basis of the Speakout.
