Cameron Sievers allowed one hit as West Central beat Mendon Unity 1-0 in eight innings in baseball May 15 at Winchester.
After seven scoreless innings, the Cougars (19-5) finally broke through in the eighth.
Dalton Hutton walked to lead off the inning, and Sievers hit a sacrifice bunt. The throw from the pitcher, however, went past the first baseman into right field, and Hutton was able to score without a play at home plate.
Sievers walked one batter and struck out seven in the game. He allowed just a leadoff single in the seventh inning.
Unity had just three base runners in the game. They received a one out walked in the third, and a runner reached base on an error in the fifth inning. Unity also the single in the seventh inning, but that runner was erased on a double play.
West Central also had just one hit in the game. Carson Brown (1-for-3) had a one out single in the first inning.
The Cougars loaded the bases with two out in the second inning and stranded a runner one third base in the fourth inning.
Tucker Arnold reached base on an error with one out. Ben Bangert and Hayden Johns both walked with two outs, but the next batter flew out to left field to end the inning.
Anthony Hance walked with one out in the fourth inning. He advanced to second on a ground out and reached third on a passed ball. The next batter grounded out to end the threat.
