The City of Jerseyville approved an intergovernmental agreement at their regular council meeting last week between the city and the county for shared usage of the city’s police training and shooting range.
Mayor Kevin Stork said some improvements had been made at the range, which Police Chief Brad Blackorby said will allow both departments to complete multiple state-required trainings.
“We came across the property there that was adjacent to us so we expanded it,” Jerseyville Police Chief Brad Blackorby said. “It’s a whole training facility. We’re going to have K-9 training out there. We’re going to have different types of firearm training, but also with the state regulations, with more and more training on different areas of police work, it’s just a whole area out there that we can do multiple trainings. It’s going to be a good addition.”
Attorney William Strang said the space has been shared for several years and this was a chance to formalize the agreement between the city and county to share the costs.
In other business, the council approved an engineering services agreement with Bartlett and West Inc. for phase three of services related to the Hollow Avenue Roadway improvements.
Two facade grant applications were also approved at last week’s meeting, as recommended by the TIF Advisory Board. The first was a small facade commercial grant to help with the cost of guttering at 209 South Washington. The second was for a large facade commercial grant to help with the cost of paving the gravel parking lot at 221 South State Street.
Council also approved several reappointments. William Russell was reappointed to the TIF Advisory Board with a term to expire in April 2028. Tony Heitzig was reappointed to the TIF Advisory Board with a term to expire in 2027. Chris Skinner was reappointed to the Police and Fire Commissioners Board with a term to expire in April 2027. Dean Bishop was reappointed to the Police and Fire Commissioners Board with a term to expire in April 2028.
Before adjourning, council also reminded the public that City Hall will be closed for Memorial, the Donor Pool is scheduled to open on Saturday, May 24, and Rock the Block returns on Friday, May 30, with Mattie Schell at City Center Plaza.
