Ashlen Scott and Scarlett Schultz were crowned as 2025 Miss Jersey County and Little Miss Jersey County last Wednesday at the Jersey County Fair.
Miss Ashlen and Miss Scarlett have already had a busy week once taking their reign as Fair Queens, with grandstand events every night, livestock shows early on Saturday, and plenty of rides and fair food, but they both said they’re very excited and thankful for the opportunity.
Miss Scarlett said she had never done anything quite like it before and even though she was a little nervous being on stage for the first time she still felt confident.
“Like I was shaking so bad. I was excited,” Miss Scarlett said.
Contestants started practicing at the end of May so there was some time to work on their stage presence and that gave Scarlett a chance to get her wave perfected.
Although she can’t compete for Little Miss again, Scarlett said she thinks she’s interested in competing for Miss Jersey County in the future after how much fun she had in this year’s pageant.
“It’s been fun. Riding all the rides and getting funnel cake,” Miss Scarlett said.
Miss Ashlen said she’s looking forward to her reign as Miss Jersey County and is excited to represent the county throughout the year and at state.
“I really wasn’t expecting it. I’ve never done a pageant before, so I was really stepping out of my comfort zone. I’m glad that I did and I’m really happy I did it,” Miss Ashlen said. “It felt really great. It feels like all the hard work I put in really paid off.”
Miss Ashlen said she had never participated in a pageant, but is glad she did and thankful for the experience.
“I didn’t think it’d be my favorite but I really loved it,” she said.”It’s been really fun. I’ve loved talking to so many people and getting to go to shows, the tractor pulls and the rodeo.”
Although they’ve already had a busy week at the Jersey County Fair, Miss and Little Miss Jersey still have a lot ahead of them. After the girls finish some of their official duties they’ll get a chance to enjoy the rest of the summer before September when Miss Jersey County begins preparing for January’s state pageant.
“I’m definitely looking forward to spending the year with Miss Scarlett and I’m also excited to go to state and compete there,” she said. “I just want to say thank you and I’m super excited to serve Jersey County.”
