Sept. 3, 1925
Ross Snider of this place, received a broken right arm Wednesday of last week, while engaged in playing ball at Batchtown. The Hardin team, of which Snider is a member, was playing a game of ball with the Batchtown team, and was hit by a pitched ball. The injury will lay Snider up from work for several weeks.
Sept. 7, 1950
County Chairman, Carl Franke advises that Benjamin Searcy, candidate for Clerk of the Appellate Court; Vernon Nickell, Candidate for Supt. of Public Instruction; Wm. Stratton, candidate for State Treasurer, and all county republican candidates will be at the Town Hall Theatre Friday for a big Republican rally.
Sept. 4, 1975
The Calhoun County Apple Festival and Junior Fair at the Fairgrounds north of Hardin starts Thursday and runs through Sunday evening when the new Queen will be crowned. Calhoun Historical Society voted at its meeting last Tuesday evening to have a booth at the County Fair to sell Sesquicentennial souvenirs. Hundreds were sold at the July 4 celebrations but many were unable to attend to buy them. The most sought after souvenir is the large plate with a map of Calhoun County on it.

Several familiar faces will be seen as grand marshalls in the 2000 Calhoun County Fair Parade. In celebration of the 175th anniversary of Calhoun County, Calhoun mayors will be serving as grand marshals. Grand marshals will be Sarah Kinder, mayor of Batchtown; Bill Horman, mayor of Hardin; Donna Kelly, mayor of Hamburg; and Ted “Redeye” Schumann, mayor of Kampsville.
