ν Sept. 7 Music with a Mission: The City of Pittsfield has announced the return of the 2nd Annual Music With a Mission Festival, taking place Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Pittsfield Lake Ball Diamond. Gates open at 4 p.m. for an evening packed with live music, community pride, and a powerful cause. Headlining this year’s event is the legendary, multi-platinum country band Little Texas, beloved for chart-topping hits like “God Blessed Texas” and “What Might Have Been.” Joining them on stage is the high-energy Nashville favorite, Los Honkey Tonkers. Kicking off the night’s performances is Evan Darnell, a hometown favorite and rising local star.
ν Back to Dexter Day 2025 is Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Dexter Schoolhouse (one mile west of Perry). The event will feature a potluck lunch at noon followed by some entertainment, including an auction. Money for the auction helps take care of the school building. All are welcome to come enjoy some nostalgia and fellowship at this historic country school. Attendees should bring their own chair.
ν The New Philadelphia Association hosts Free Frank Freedom Day, an inspiring community event celebrating the historic achievement of Free Frank McWorter. McWorter purchased his freedom and founded New Philadelphia, the first town in the United States platted and legally registered by an African American. The event will take place on Saturday, September 13, 4 p.m. at the New Philadelphia National Historic Site. music, reflections, and a keynote address by Hannibal Historian, Faye Dant. The program will underscore the ideals of freedom, community, and civic engagement, illustrating how McWorter’s story serves as a model for democratic principles in action.
