Tuesday through Saturday last week temperatures remained in mid-60’s to 80 degrees. Wonderful weather to get outside work accomplished. As of yesterday (Sunday) only up to 58*, but as long as we have sunshine that really makes a big difference.
I have an addition to my article that was in last week’s Point News regarding the Brussels Girl Scouts serving their annual Veteran’s Meal and a program on November 8 at St. Matthew Hall in Brussels. They served 31 Veterans and their guests, 23 scouts and their guests and the three leaders, Debbie Kamp, Amanda Brodbeck and Diane Tepen. Eight members of the Brussels High School National Honor Society and their leader Jeanie Johnes, and Miss Calhoun Abby Johnes, who all helped prepare and serve the meal. There was a Veteran’s Day prayer, followed by a program in which they recognized the Veterans in attendance. The Girl Scouts also presented handmade gifts to over 40 Veterans, including 8 at Calhoun Nursing & Rehab in Hardin, which they delivered the following day.
This past weekend some of the Brussels Girl Scouts and their parents attended a Girl Scout Service Unit Camping Trip at Camp Torqua in Edwardsville. The event was organized by their Service Unit Manager, Trish Clevenger from Brighton. Sixty scouts and volunteers were in attendance. Attending from Brussels Girl Scouts were Maggie Tepen, Kinsley Plummer, Lilly Tepen, Isabella Tepen, Anistyn Robeen, Lorelei Hartman, Alivia Robeen and Aubrie Kirn. They were accompanied by Troop 405 Leader Diane Tepen and volunteers Jodi Plummer, Rachel Hartman and Ann Kirn. On December 6 in the morning Brussels Troop 405 will be out Christmas Caroling.
Congratulations to Riley Andrew Scott and Paige Elaine Devening who were married at 1 p.m. on November 8, 2025 at Saints Joachim and Ann Catholic Church in St. Charles, MO. A reception followed at 5 p.m. at the Trigg Banquet Center in O’Fallon, MO and afterwards a dance for their many family members and friends. Paige is the daughter of Kenny and Judy (Hagen) Devening and her grandparents are Roy and Barb Hagen of Brussels.
Fred and Debbie Kuhn of Golden Eagle helped their grandson Barrett Kuhn celebrate his 8th Birthday recently. Barrett is the son of Matthew and Kate Kuhn of Festus, MO. Last Thursday Debbie underwent knee replacement and is now home recuperating. Praying for a speedy recovery for you Debbie.
The Calhoun Entertainment Community Theater, directed by Jerry Sievers is this weekend beginning on Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday November 23 at 2 p.m. Matinee. It will be held at the Center for American Archeology (the old Kampsville Gym) in Kampsville. This year’s production is “Arsenic and Old Lace”. The CEC has been performing musicals and theater productions since the spring of 1989.
My helpers and dinner guests on Saturday were John and Caleb Carnes of Edwardsville. I really enjoyed all they accomplished while here, John even grilled steaks for our dinner to which I added baked potatoes and salad.
On Sunday afternoon my visitors and helpers were Dennis and Shelly Scherer of Wright City, MO. Lots of honey-do jobs completed by them as well, which I certainly appreciated. Shelly had also made a Rueben Casserole ready for the oven which we enjoyed for dinner. Thanks to all my weekend helpers, I hope they know how much I appreciate all their help.
The Brussels Woman’s Club will be meeting this Thursday, November 20 at 1:30 p.m. Hostess is Jean Barton and the program on Education by Carol Sue Carnes.
I accompanied Yvonne Baecht to the Jerseyville Boy Scout Troop 59 Chili Supper recently. It was held at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, this is where their monthly meetings, etc are held. Her grandson, Samuel Baecht, son of Keith and Becky Baecht, is a member of this troop. Delicious chili, hot dog and dessert enjoyed by all in attendance. We also enjoyed a visit with Sue (Underwood) and Becky, Keith and Samuel while there.
Mark your calendar for Jerri Lynn Klemme of J. L. Krafts & Flowers, Christmas Open House in Golden Eagle. Both Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7. Starting time is 10 a.m. and ending time is 5 p.m. There will be all kinds of silk arrangements, cemetery saddles, first shipment of live poinsettias, craft items and more.
I just read in the West Central “News & Views” that November is National Family Caregivers Month. They do deserve celebration for all their time, energy and compassion every day to support loved ones in need. It could be adult children helping aging parents, spouses caring for one another or friends that offer to lend a hand, we appreciate all their dedicated help. Many thanks to all who are, or have been, caregivers, offering relief, guidance and support where needed.

PRAYER FOR CAREGIVERS
God of Blessing, be with all caregivers who are responsible for days full of important life decisions, and not entirely sure what to do. Another person is dependent on you for help with almost all aspects of their life, and it can be overwhelming. Lord, I know that they need Your blessings in every responsibility to get them through another day. Renew their strength and give them patience and courage. In Jesus’ name, Amen
