It’s already mid-January. Winter is here! There has been flu and other related health issues circulating around in our community. The school attendance has been down, and people have been off work. The schools in the area are now playing basketball and volleyball. Many of us are going to Tournaments, and local games in our local schools. The Winter Olympics are on TV. For us to watch and keep up in the U.S. and international games.
Jim and Theresa Johnes attended the send-off party for their Granddaughter Abby Johnes Friday night. The event was hosted by the Calhoun Fair Board and held at Straight Home. Abby will represent Calhoun County in the Illinois State Fair Queen Competition in Springfield on Jan. 17 and 18. Good luck in the competition Abby.
The Calhoun Warriors are played in the Greenfield Tournament at 7 p.m. Sat. night. Many fans will be attending. Go team go!
Irene Wallendorf and daughter Hope Klocke took a trip to Alton Friday. They enjoyed the day and their trip to Alton together.
Elaine Titus and son. Brian Rose. visited Elaine’s Aunt Julieann at her home in Bethalto. They played cards together and had a good time.
The Batchtown Woman’s Club will not meet until Wednesday, Mar.18.
The Calhoun FFA Alumni Auction will be held at the KC Hall in Hardin on Feb. 7. The admission price is $15.00 for adults, and $8 for kids, under 5 free. Dinner is from 5 to 6 p.m. Silent Auction begins at 5 p.m. Live Auction begins at 6: 30 p.m. followed by a Card Auction. For more information call Andrea Pohlman at 1-618-946-6040.
A newly formed Basketball Team for second graders, The Fill Inn Station with Coach, Becky Peters played at the Susini Center Saturday. Second grader Noah Kuhn was on the team. They played a Jerseyville Team and won the game. There are several students from Calhoun on the team. Noah is the son of Henry and Annie Kuhn.

Pancreatic Cancer Benefit for Kyle Cox Sat. Jan. 24, at the Walnut HLL Estate at 216 N. – 108 Carrollton, Ill. 62016, Doors open at 1 p.m. the Auction is at 2 p.m. All proceeds go to assist with medicine, bills, and travel to St. Louis for Kyle’s treatment. There is a Gun Raffle, and a 50-50 Drawing. Food will be served, and Live Music performed by Toxic Johnny! Our thoughts and prayers are with you Kyle.
Happy Birthday to Kam Klocke who was 10 years old on Jan. 6th. He is the son of Clint and Natalie Klocke. His sisters, Lucy and Hally helped Kam celebrate on his special day. His grandparents are Keith and Hope Klocke, and Great Grandmother is Irene Wallendorf.
Fred and Gina Rose attended their grandson, Noah’s basketball team. The Team is called, The Fill Inn Station Team. The coach is Becky Peters. Several families from the area are on the team. They won the game. Noah’s parents, Henry and Annie Kinder, and siblings Nora, and baby Fred were there too.
We are happy to report that Tony and Hatty Hillen celebrated their 13th Wedding Anniversary on January 5th. Congratulations!
The Calhoun County Display of the Bicentennial with a look ahead to the 250th Anniversary of the United States was held at the Calhoun County Court House on Friday, Jan. 9. The improvements made to the Marvin Richitier Government Building were apparent, especially the walkway to the door, the new elevator, flooring, and improvements to the walls, and furnishings. Snacks were enjoyed by all as they toured the building. They look forward to looking ahead to the 250 Anniversary of the United States of America.
