We wish Mark and Debbie Becker the best in their retirement as they announced earlier this week that after nine amazing years The Pavilion will be shutting its doors for good. Such a great part of Kampsville and we will definitely miss you and not just your amazing food. It was a great part of our community. Debbie and Mark also gave so much to so many organizations and helped the town anytime they could. But I’m sure they will still be helping us out at many of our town events. You’ll probably even see Mark at the Christmas party, but you might not realize it’s him.
Wow what a Senior Night ballgame. Calhoun defeated Roxana in the last second of the game with a buzzer shot from Jack Goode. Congratulations Seniors Jack Goode, Blake Nolte, Jack Zipprich, Skylar Giberson, Karleigh Mason and our two Kampsville seniors being recognized Rodney Johnson and Reagan Clendenny.
Now speaking of kids who grew up in Kampsville. Adam Hickson was just named as a head football coach for the Jerseyville Panthers Adam grew up right here and his parents Rob and Joann Hickson and his mother-in-law Sandi Roundcount still call Kampsville home. Adam played for the Calhoun Warriors in high school and then went on to play at Illinois college in his college career. Congratulations Adam. I know you will do a great job and you will be a leader for the team to look up to. We couldn’t be prouder.
Calhoun Warrior Cheerleaders competed Saturday in the Camp Point Cheer Showdown and took Best Overall Cheer Squad. The team competed with their timeout cheer, halftime cheer and halftime routine. Reagan Clendenny was chosen Most Valuable Cheerleader.
Part of the fun of this competition, to entertain us while the girls were getting ready, they got the dads involved. The dads were shot a lift and they had to do it. Representing the Warriors cheer dad’s Dusty Klaas, Ed Johnson, Terry Clendenny and Alan Baremore. The dads did great and represented us well and everybody enjoyed it. Had they known they were going to be doing that they might not have worn work boots. They were absolutely my favorite. The cheer siblings also competed in a relay race competing for Calhoun Ren Taul, Charlie Fester and Maverick and Mia Klaas. They also did a great job.
Congratulations to the Calhoun Warriors 8th Grade volleyball team, they took first place in the Northwestern Round Robin Tournament.
Thank you to everyone who helped with the fifth and sixth grade boys basketball fundraiser to buy new uniforms by ordering Duke’s Bakery donuts. At 6 a.m. Thursday morning 196 dozen donuts went out the door at Duke’s bakery all for our fundraiser! As Duke’s Bakery said in their Facebook post that’s a “Slam Dunk.” I personally am upset with myself that I only ordered one dozen. They were gone by the afternoon and we could’ve easily eaten another dozen. I’ll know better.
Several Calhoun residents, including me, enjoyed the Phantom of the Opera Sunday afternoon at the Fox Theater in St. Louis. We then enjoyed a delicious dinner at Aries Winery in Grafton. JD Lorton and crew did a fabulous job.
This was a “Timmy’s Travels” trip. Tim Reif heads up these trips out of Carrollton. He organizes everything. I’ve taken several of his trips and I’ve never been disappointed. He does an excellent job.
Don’t forget St. Anslem’s Game Day is coming up. March 1. Doors open at 12 p.m. games begin at 1 p.m. Lunch and desserts will be served. St. Anslem’s will also be raffling Quilts that were quilted by Judy Benz, Cecelia Hayn, Helen Vetter, Sherri Klunk and Maymie Petrowski. Tickets are available at the back of St. Francis of Assisi Church and the Bank of Kampsville, Kampsville location. The quilts are currently on display at the bank. They are absolutely gorgeous quilts. Get those tickets bought and please come show your support. We are working really hard to keep the doors open at St. Anslem’s.
Sympathy to the family of Ruby Quiller on her passing Ruby was a sweet lady. I always think she had the most sparkling eyes to go along with her sparkling smile. Please keep her family in your prayers and continue prayers for Billie Jo Eickmeyer, Aiden Snodgrass, Mary Ann Gress, Kiera Sievers, Isabel McGlaughin, Sue Baze, Kurt Roth, Connor Gilman, Christie Baalman, Liz Schliecher, Kathryn Chapman, Luanne Baalman, Joyce Blumenberg, Sue Aderton, Diane Rose and Lisa Waters.
