Three players scored in double figures, and West Central upset Griggsville-Perry 50-38 in the first round of the IHSA Class 1A Basketball Regional Feb. 23 at Griggsville.
West Central led 34-21 after Cooper Eddinger scored with 7:35 remaining in the game. Griggsville-Perry cut the margin to four points on three different occasion in the quarter, including 41-37 with just over 2 minutes remaining.
NIck Hamilton made two free throws with 1:52 remaining. Carson Clevenger made two, and the Cougars led 44-37 with 1:12 remaining..
Cooper Eddinger and Blayne SIdwell made two free throws, and Blaine Vortman made one in the 43.7 seconds to seal the upset.
Gabe Howard and Eddinger both scored in the final 1:31, and West Central led 7-5 after one quarter. Griggsville led 10-9 early in the second quarter.
Howard scored, Eddinger made a free throw, and Hamilton made two free throws to give West Central a 14-10 lead. Hamilton scored four points, and Vortman scored three as the Cougars went on a 7-0 run and extend their lead to 21-13.
Hamilton made a three-point basket at the buzzer, and the Cougars led 24-15 at halftime. Eddinger made two free throws to extend West Central’s lead to 29-17 with 3:32 remaining in the quarter. Griggsville-Perry got within 29-21 with 1 minute remaining.
Sidwell made a three-point basket wtih 6 seconds remaining, and West Central led 32-21 after three quarters.
Sidwell scored 15 points to lead the winners (13-17). Hamilton scored 11 points, and Eddinger scored 10.
Howard scored six points. Clevenger and Vortman each scored four points.
