St. Patrick’s Day at the Hardin Senior Center was enjoyed with dinner, and a piece of cake. Bingo was played on March 19 with a nice crowd participating. Some of the ladies also brought cookies that were shared with all.
The Batchtown Woman’s Club met at the Fill Inn Station in Batchtown on Wednesday, March, 18 at 6 p.m.. The members present were Jean Tepen, Karen Friedel, Robin Hillen, Marilyn Kockenkemper, Elaine Titus, Sharon Friedel, and Marcy Klockenkemper,. Barb Margherio was absent. She had back surgery this week and came home Friday. We wish her a good recovery. The members enjoyed supper together, and the meeting followed. President Jean Tepen, and members stuffed the plastic Easter Eggs with candy, and are planning to have real-colored eggs there too at the Easter Egg Hunt. They planned the time and the events of the Hunt. It will be Holy Saturday, April 4. The children are to arrive at the Town Building on Main St. in Batchtown at 12:30 p.m. and visit with the Easter Bunny, until 12:45, and then they will walk with the Easter Bunny, parents, and Club members to the Town Park, Other Batchtown Woman’s Club members will be there too. Easter Eggs and Candy Eggs will be on the grounds ready for the children to find on the Hunt. The members will help the children get into their correct age groups. The Egg Hunt will start at 1 p.m. The children will have a good time finding and collecting the eggs. They can play on the playground equipment, with the other children. Parents and all the children will enjoy visiting with each other. The Batchtown Woman’s Club provides the Easter Egg Hunt for the Batchtown community every Easter and enjoys doing it. This has been a tradition for many years.
We congratulate our third graders on their recent pilgrimage to the Mother Church of our diocese, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where they received their First Holy Communion and were confirmed by Bishop Paprocki. They were joined by the third graders from around the diocese and, in communion with the bishop, was given an experience of the universality of the Catholic Church. We look forward to their joining us at Table of the Lord. Those students from Blessed Trinity were Avery Baalman, Case Droege, Charlotte Gibreth, Carl Kirn, Phillip Long, and Rose Wieneke. Those attending from St. Francis of Assisi were Blakely Baltisberger, Grace Brady, Max Brannan, Ella Eilerman, Finley Eilerman, Paige Eilerman, Molly Hagen, Natalie Owens, and Ren Taul.
Elaine Titus and her son, Brian Rose visited Juliann Underhill at her home in Bethalto. They enjoyed playing cards together, and had a good day..
Vera Ann Klockenkemper visited her sister, Elda and her husband Ted, and their daughters Tammy and Toyna on Monday, March 16. Elda’s birthday. They all enjoyed being with Elda on her special day. Happy birthday Elda!
Terry Klockenkemper celebrated his birthday on Monday, March 16. His sister, Marcy joined him for supper at the Riverdock Restaurant in Hardin on his special day. Happy birthday Terry. Linda Russell was happy to see Steve and Cindy Mezorus, and son Hayden Friday afternoon. They enjoyed the day together.
Lindy and Martha Bick went to Grandson, Ian’s Conformation at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. on Wednesday, March 18. Congratulations Ian on your special day.
The Stations of the Cross continue to be on Fridays during Lent. The Stations will be said at St. Norberts Church, and St. Mary’s church at 6:30 p.m. The students and others who want to attend can do so on Wednesday afternoons. at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, and on Wednesday at 2:15 p.m.at St. Norbert’s Church.
The Brussels American Legion are having two Fish Fries on Friday, March 20, and Friday, March 27. Be sure to come and support the American Legion and purchase their delicious Fish suppers.
The St. Barbara Church is having a Spring Turtle Soup Supper Saturday, April 11, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. You can either dine in or drive through. Turtle Soup will be available and will be sold by bowl, quart, and gallon. Beef Sandwiches Hot Dogs, and Desserts, will also be available for those who dine in. If glass quart jars are preferred for the carry-outs, please bring your own. It is hoped that the Turtle Soup Supper will be a success. A new stairlift is available from the back of the church to the basement. If people need assistance descending and need the stairlift. It is available. We hope to see you at the Turtle Soup Supper.
The Calhoun Entertainment Company presents “Annie” March 26 thru March 29, Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday’s performance at 2 p.m. The performance will be held at the American Archeology Center, Kampsville, Ill. Tickets are on sale at the following locations, The Northside Family Foods, Hardin Package Liquors, all county locations of the Bank of Calhoun County, and all locations of the Bank of Kampsville. Tickets for Adults are $12.00, Seniors (over 60) $10.00, and Grade School and Under $10.00.
An Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Sat. March 28th at 2 p.m. the Winneberg Clubhouse on 566 Quarry Rd., Golden Eagle, Ill. There will be free snacks, Face Painting, Door Prizes, and Games, and a 50/50 Raffle. Special features are a Petting Zoo from 2-5:30 p.m., Egg Hunt for children seven and under at 2 p.m. a Glow Egg Hunt at 7:30 p.m. All Hosted by the Easter Bunny. The Batchtown Cornerstone Church has Sunday Service at 10:45 a.m. Good Friday Service will be held at 7 p.m. Refreshments will follow the service. A Bible Class is held every Wednesday at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
A Lenten Bible Class is being held at St. Mary’s Hall in Brussels on Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the Gospel of St. Luke. Everyone is welcome.
