Spring has sprung and now is the time to clear out all the rubbish and junk away from one’s house. With that in mind, the city of Carrollton has set May 20 to 23 as city-wide clean-up days for residents of the city.
As with everything, the price of the dumpsters has gone up this year and the size of the dumpster has gone down.
Public Works Director Steve Rosentreter presented a bid from Triple Crown Rolloffs, who provided the city with dumpsters last year, for a 30-yard dumpster at a cost of $800 per dumpster plus $100 per ton over six tons.
“Last year we got a 40-yard dumpster for $785 and this year we can only get a 30-yard dumpster at a cost of $800,” Rosentreter said. “They don’t want to give us a 40-yard dumpster because they are so busy with people tearing down houses and things, and frankly, they just have so much business already.”
Rosentreter said he tried other places as well and couldn’t do any better.
“I tried a couple other places and their prices weren’t any better,” he said. “Then someone told me that Winchester was doing theirs at the same time and their dumpsters went up $200 each over last year’s price.”
Rosentreter said Triple Crown has been really good to work with in the past and he would like to stay with them.
“We have used them for the last three years and they have been super good to us,” he said. “They are very good about showing up when you call them. We call them about a dumpster being full and they are here within an hour or an hour and a half with another dumpster.”
Mayor Mike Snyder asked if they have ever been charged the extra fee for going over the six-ton limit. Rosentreter said he didn’t recall ever having to pay extra.
Residents may bring items to the city shed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.
Alderwoman Bernie Faul asked if people came to dump stuff after 4 p.m. through the week and if there was a need to pay the three hours overtime to the works if they didn’t.
Rosentreter said yes, they definitely did come after 4 p.m. through the week because a lot of people work through the week and their only time to take stuff is after they get off work, most of the time after 5 p.m.
He did add that they tried to extend the hours on Saturday till 4 p.m. but after noon hardly anyone ever came so they scaled the time back to a noon cutoff.
A motion to hire a new police officer was tabled until next month. Officer Aaron Mehrhoff will officially retire on May 5. Chief John Goode is posting the position to the part time officers and if any are interested they will be considered first for the position.
