And the winner is…the Class of 2032! The Class of 2032 put a lot of thought and effort into the making of their float to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday and their effort didn’t go unnoticed as they were awarded first place in the float competition. (Carmen Ensinger/River County News)

While it didn’t win an award, the float entered by Brantzel’s sure should have. Love little Master George Washington sitting there. (Carmen Ensinger/River County News)

Half the fun of a parade is the anticipation and waiting for it to start and getting a chance to visit with friends. Here, Alyssa Gordley and Ainsley Ruyle play while waiting for the parade to start. (Carmen Ensinger/River County News)

Everyone enjoys a good game of bingo and there were three nights of it to enjoy. Drew Riley is focused on his card during one of the games Friday night. (Carmen Ensinger/River County News)

You can’t have an event in North Greene without having some darn good grilled food and, surprise, surprise, look who was behind the grill. None other than Danny Powell and White Hall Police Chief Luke Coultas. (Submitted photo)

Austin Mintert, a member of the Jerseyville Panther Marching Band, marched right along playing the cymbals with the band. Carmen Ensinger/River County News)

The Scott County royalty made an appearance in the parade. Left to right: Miss Scott County Kylie Clayton, Little Miss Carly Schnelten and Junior Miss Maura Moore. (Carmen Ensinger/River County News)

Nothing like having a bevy of beauties to make a parade worth watching, such as the North Greene Lady Spartan Cheerleaders. (Carmen Ensinger/River County News)

It was a wild weekend in White Hall for the 87th Annual Homecoming Celebration and while Mother Nature showed her temper, at times, she did let the major events happen without a tantrum. The weather was clear for the 3 on 3 basketball tournament Thursday morning and the pageant that night. Friday, while it rained off and on most of the day, it stopped long enough for a parade that lasted over an hour with just a hint of a sprinkle at the end. However, around 8:30, the Heavens opened up. Each night, at Lions Park, there was a carnival for the kids, bingo for the adults and vendors for everyone. There were also a bands to keep everyone entertained. Saturday was a beautiful day for the events that ended with a bang – literally – with an amazing fireworks show.
