North Greene has the opportunity to be the pilot school for a new program being offered through Boyd Hospital and its Brighter Connections Program.
North Greene Superintendent Jackie Kuchy informed the board at their July board meeting that Alice Vandersand, with the Brighter Connection’s program, had approached them about being the pilot school for the program.
“She approached us about being the pilot school for that big $100,000 grant that the Tracy Family is offering,” Kuchy said. “And, she has made it to the next level in the grant funding and will be presenting it to a panel, so it does seem like this is getting a little closer to becoming a reality.”
Kuchy said she wanted to reiterate that, technically, this is going to be like a research study for them.
The Brighter Connections Program at Boyd is a specialized pediatric program designed to help children with neurodevelopmental challenges.
It uses the proven Melillo Method to improve brain symmetry and enhance communication between the brain’s hemispheres.
The program works directly alongside families to unlock a child’s potential in a non-medical setting. Because these specific therapies are not covered by insurance, grants, such as the one being offered by the Tracy Foundation, are often required to keep the services accessible and help families cover the cost.
The Melillo Method is a treatment approach developed by Dr. Robert Melillo to help correct or improve the core root issues of most neurodevelopmental and educational disabilities in kids and adults.
The core issue is a developmental imbalance in the brain between the two hemispheres that leads to a wide variety of symptoms. Because the brain controls everything, imbalances in the brain can lead to imbalances in all systems in the body.
Kids with these issues have a number of different problems that are unique to each child, but all cause by the same single underlying issue – a brain imbalance.
The goal is simple – to restore balance to the brain by targeting specific networks on one side of the brain with very specific stimulation.
By combining different types of stimulation, such as light, sound, smell, movement, inner ear, balance and touch, along with cognitive and academic activities, etcetera, networks on one specific side of the brain can be activated causing them to grow and become more connected.
Some of the methods the Melillo Method uses to stimulate the brain include virtual reality video games and specific frequencies of sound, light and vibration. These are all part of the “Digital Health” and are the newest and most exciting areas of treatment.
Dr. Melillo and his colleagues have found a way to combine his theories and research and utilize these tools to help create balance between the hemispheres quicker than ever before.
He has also incorporated the use of laser therapy, electrotherapy, together with diet, nutrition and behavioral management to develop the most cutting edge and comprehensive approach available in the world.
