Lloyd Eugene Bateman | 88 | Pleasant Hill

Lloyd Eugene Bateman, age 88, of Pleasant Hill, IL passed away peacefully Aug. 1, 2025. He was born in White Hall, on Sept. 29, 1936, to Howard and Garnet Bateman. Lloyd graduated from White Hall High School in 1954. On Jan. 29, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Jeanette Backs.Lloyd’s working career included working at Caterpillar in Peoria, owning and operating Bateman’s IGA in Pleasant Hill, and working at Dyno Nobel in Louisiana, Missouri, where he retired in 1998.
Lloyd loved the outdoors and spent countless hours in the woods. He had a passion for bow hunting and later in life developed that same passion for nature photography. He took great pride in his photographs and loved sharing them with his family and friends. He also enjoyed vacationing with his family out west in places such as Colorado and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. If he was in the mountains, he was all smiles. He also enjoyed reading books and loved eating ice cream.
Lloyd was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kampsville, since 1968.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; sons, Kim Bateman of Pleasant Hill, Kevin Bateman of Jefferson City, Missouri, Kenyen Bateman (Cheryl) of Jefferson City, Missouri; his five grandchildren, Aaron Smith (Denise), Julie Houston (Brandon), Jordan Bateman (Jessica), Derek Bateman (Erin), Michael Bateman; and six great grandchildren, River, Sloan, Jaida, Ella, Kobe and Josie.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial service will be held at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill on Saturday, August 9 at 2:30 p.m., with inurnment to follow at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kampsville, Fairfield Library in Pleasant Hill, or Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
