Russell ‘Dale’ Harpole | 96 | Jerseyville
Russell “Dale” Harpole of Jerseyville Manor departed this world peacefully Dec. 20, 2025. He was 96 years old.
Dale was born in Nebo, Illinois on Aug. 6, 1929, the only son of Ross Harpole and Leota Beatrice (Sutton) Harpole. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce (Stewart) Harpole in 1950. They resided in Nebo and farmed the family land for over 30 years.
Dale and Joyce moved to Denver, Colorado in 1983 to be near children and grandchildren. They made their home there for 21 years before moving to Arizona in 2004. They enjoyed 12 sunny years watching their grandsons play football and cheering on their favorite sports teams.
They returned to Illinois in 2015.
Dale loved basketball and played throughout high school. He wasn’t tall, but it has been said that many went to watch his fancy footwork, dribbling, and passing. He missed running and jumping more than anything. I’m pretty sure he is doing a lot of that right now. God bless you, Dad!
Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, in Dec., 2017; his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Ray Ottwell; sister, Mary Lou Chamberlain; sisters-in-law, Pauline, Wilma and Doretta; daughter-in-law, Haidy Harpole; and many beloved aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his son, Philip Dale Harpole, and daughter, Karen Harpole Stubblefield, both of Jerseyville. He is also survived by his grandchildren Terrell (Todd) Jones and Bree (Chris) Madigan, Colorado; Chase Matthew Harpole and Chad Marshall Harpole, Phoenix, Arizona; and great grand children, Airess, Chloe, Landon, and Brinkley, all from Colorado; a brother-in-law, Don Chamberlain of Pittsfield, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gent Funeral Home, Godfrey, Illinois, performed the cremation. A private burial will take place at Nebo Cemetary for both Dale and Joyce at a later date.
Donations can be made to Nebo Cemetary or Found a Hound Rescue in Godfrey, Illinois.
