On April 4, at 11:13 p.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was notified by West-Central 911 Dispatch of a Rolling Domestic Disturbance in Progress, happening on Pump Station Rd., in northwest Calhoun County, Illinois.
West Central 911 Dispatchers coordinated efforts between the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Pike County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police; in an effort to attempt to locate the moving vehicle.
Deputy Skyler Lambeth with the Pike County Sheriff’s Department located the vehicle in Pleasant Hill, Pike County, Illinois and took a male suspect into custody.
A Trooper with the Illinois State Police and a Deputy with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office were also involved in the investigation and apprehension.
Subsequent to an investigation, Justine L. Burse, age 45, of Pleasant Hill, Illinois was arrested for the following offenses:
■ Aggravated Domestic Battery – Strangulation,
■ Aggravated Domestic Battery,
■ Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
Burse was arrested without incident and was booked into the Pike County Jail and is currently being held without Bond.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank West-Central 911 Dispatch for their efforts and outstanding work during this incident. We would also like to thank the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police for their assistance in the investigation and apprehension.
In a separate incident on April 2, at approximately 2:15 p.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was notified by West-Central 911 Dispatch of a Domestic Disturbance in Progress, involving a firearm in Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois.
Deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded to the location, and arrived at 2:20 p.m. Chief Deputy Chris Barnes identified and detained a male suspect and conducted an investigation.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office then worked with the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit with the processing of the scene and evidence.
Subsequent to an investigation, Ronald N. Smith, age 68, of Hardin, Illinois was arrested for the following offenses:
■ Reckless Discharge of a Firearm,
■ Unlawful Restraint,
■ Domestic Battery – Bodily Harm.
Smith was arrested without incident and is currently booked into the Pike County Jail and is currently being held without Bond.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the civilians on scene who assisted in deescalation, West-Central 911 Dispatch, and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit for their assistance in this incident.
