Adam Christopher Kirgan, 36, of Barry, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 3, 2026, at his home in Barry, Illinois, after a lifetime battle with an auto immune disease that he was born with.
He was born on Dec. 1, 1989, in Quincy, Illinois, to Rick and Sandy Kirgan.
He is survived by his parents, Rick and Sandy Kirgan; his beloved cats, Bandit, Nova and Luna; aunt, Pam and uncle, Paul; aunt, Donna; cousin, Michelle and her husband, Ryan and their children Logan and Kenley; aunt, Betsy; cousin, Jordan; several other cousins; his chosen uncles, Brian Evans, Rollie Lee and Doug Mills; his former employer and friend, Debbie Harshman; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Darlene Duncan and Gene and Pauline Kirgan; and his dogs, Heidi, Stephanie, Lana and Nadia.
Adam was a graduate of Western High School in Barry, he attended Northern Illinois University for 1 year and then transferred to Southern Illinois University graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Mass Communications. Later, he worked for his local newspaper called The Paper. He loved writing and covering events in the community. He was later employed at General Mills in Hannibal, Missouri until his health forced him to leave. During all this time he helped his parents with Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry until their retirement in 2025.
He was a wonderful son and wonderful man. He was smart, loving, caring, thoughtful, funny and kind. He will be greatly missed and forever in our heart.
A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Winchester with interment in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. A visitation was held Friday, 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Pike County Animal Shelter or Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation.
