Nancy Ann Brackett | 83 | Griggsville
Nancy Ann Brackett, age 83, of rural Griggsville, IL left this earth to be with her soulmate on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born on Jan. 25, 1939 in Rockport, IL to George T. and Beulah Mae Howland Smith. She married Arthur H. Brackett on Dec. 24, 1959 at Pastor Lloyd Evans Home in Winchester, IL, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 2022.
Nancy graduated from Pittsfield High School and went on to attend Quincy Beauty School. She moved to Champaign and worked at a department store as a beautician for a year and then returned to Pike County working with Kate Penstone until Nancy opened her own beauty shop in the late 1960’s and later retiring at age 72. Nancy also had a candle business with Dorothy Chumley called Eagle Bridge Soy Candles. She greatly enjoyed her work family and always enjoyed helping them learn new techniques. She loved and valued the relationships that were made. In younger years, Nancy played the organ. She loved quilting and sewing, making her children clothes over the years and she always put in a big garden every year and canned the produce. She was especially known for her jelly and pickles. Nancy loved yard work and her favorite Mexican John Deere lawn mower. She was a great cook and her specialties were her noodles, spaghetti, apple pie, and fried chicken. She entertained her grandchildren daily, even playing Nintendo and was always very protective of them. Nancy and Art were soulmates and partners and when they weren’t working, they did everything together. They also enjoyed traveling together and making memories on the farm. They were truly a team. Nancy was selfless and loving with a big heart and her opinions were almost always right. She will be missed greatly.
Nancy is survived by daughter, Deborah (Steve) Duke of New Berlin, IL; son, Douglas (Anita) Brackett of Pittsfield, IL; ten grandchildren, Rindi (Corey) Hobson, Danielle (Jason) Lemons, Erika Brackett, Trent Conkright, Caleb (Bri) Brackett, Gavin (Sammy) Brackett, Nicole (Derrick) Nash, Morgan Duke, Benjamin Duke, and Samuel Duke; thirteen great grandchildren, Kaden (Montana) Bennett, Addie Bennett, Tristin Hobson, Dawsen Lemons, Natalie Lemons, Quinn Franklin, Cooper Lemons, Tatem Conrad, Tommy Mudd, Kierney Nash, Kyslyn Nash, Aayliyah Nash, and Griffin Nash; sister, Helen Hull of Griggsville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Art Brackett; her parents, George and Beulah Smith; four brothers, David Smith, Harold Smith, George Smith, Jr, and Herschel Smith; and six sisters, Dorothy Smith, Gladys Chaney, Margaret Richards, Dora Mae Weinant, Betty Crump, and Mildred Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Interment will follow at Griggsville Cemetery in Griggsville, IL. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Griggsville Library or Griggsville Cemetery.
