JCMS Panthers compete at State Track Meet

The Illinois Elementary Sports Association (IESA) hosted its second weekend of state track meets this past weekend at Peoria’s Eastside Centre. The meet, which took place May 20 and 21, was the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold that IESA was able to host their state meets.
Jersey Community Middle School had eleven of its track and field athletes qualify to compete at the state level at the sectional meet in Jerseyville on May 14, where the Panthers were able to show off their skills and bring home some medals.
Dylan Burch placed seventh in the 8th grade boys High Jump competition, with a 5-08 jump. Ethan Hughes also competed in the seventh grade boys High Jump competition after qualifying at Sectionals. Hope Buttry placed eighth in the 8th grade girls High Jump competition, with a jump of 4-09.
The Panthers also found success in the seventh and eighth grade girls relays. The Panthers placed tenth in the seventh grade 4x200m relay, with a time of 2:00.75. Their team consisted of: Lilian Judkins, Taryn Little, Marley Cazier, Makenna Brunaugh and Myra Rawe.
In the eighth grade 4x400m relay, the Panthers placed eighth, bringing home medals for runners: Kamryn Drainer, Marley Cazier, Morgan Allen, Makenna Brunaugh and Sophia Fraley.
In total, JCMS track and field earned seven medals at this year’s IESA State track and field meet. The Panthers are coached by Renae Jones, Brenda McCreary and Scott Tonsor.
