Vernon W. Story | 90 | White Hall
Vernon W. Story was born in Wrights, IL, Feb. 21, 1932. His parents were Henry Clayton Story and Nellie Kitsmiller. He married Bonnie Sue Piper, Oct. 5, 1953. They were married 52 years. Vernon and Bonnie had two daughters, Sharon and Marcia.
Surviving are daughters, Sharon (Steve) Priepot of Winchester and Marcia (Steve) Yurks of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Kristen (Mike) Dossett of Springfield, Kimberly (Randy) Nehrt of Springfield, Jessica (Ben) Etten of Salem, MA, Nicole (Jake) Lewis of IN, Stephanie (Jordan) Dierks of IN and Matthew Yurks of IN; step grandchildren, Allison (Chris) Graham of Jacksonville and Jonathan Priepot of Maryville; great grandchildren, Isabella Dossett, Maddie Dossett, Eli Nehrt, Owen Nehrt, Aspen Lewis, Jade Lewis, Dylan Etten, Reagan Graham and Lauren Graham and beloved nephew, Gary Story.
Vernon retired from LaClede Steel in Alton, IL. He served in the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart, combat infantry badge and other service awards. He was able to go on the Honor Flight in 2015. Vernon had many interests. He loved music, golfing, mushroom hunting and deer hunting. But most of all, he loved and was very proud of his beautiful family.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2022, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Winchester with interment in the White Hall Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Scott County Nursing Center.
