Kathy (Sloan) Cottrell, 89, passed into eternal life on July 16, 2022 in Spokane, WA.
Norma Kathleen (known as Kathy) was born Jan. 16, 1933 in Detroit, IL, to Clay and Marjorie (Ayers) Sloan as their first child and only daughter.
Kathy grew up in Pike County and graduated from Pittsfield High School. She attended the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, IL, receiving her RN degree.
Kathy and Paul Cottrell married in 1957, becoming parents to Mark and Jeffery. As a U. S. Air Force wife , she made a home for her family at each of her husband’s duty stations until his retirement in 1980. In 1980 they settled in Spokane, WA, becoming very active members at Audubon Park United Methodist Church (UMC), where they sang in the choir and volunteered with the food bank. They were both active in the Walk to Emmaus. In 1998, she fulfilled her calling of serving as a pastor in the UMC when she was appointed to Morton, WA. Her life was filled with artistic expression, from stitching prizewinning handmade garments for 4-H sewing contest, to working with stained glass, creating original hand-woven fiber art and painting acrylics.
She is survived by her sons Mark and Jeffery and by her brother, James (Terry) Sloan.Kathy is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Paul.
