Mary Ann Heightman | 92 | Pittsfield

Mary Ann Heightman, age 92, of Pittsfield, IL, passed away on Jan. 27, 2023 at the Liberty Village in Pittsfield, IL. She was born on April 14, 1930 in Hull, IL to Earl and Ella Eckman Shepherd. Mary Ann married Darius Hammitt in 1947 and he preceded her in death. She later married Richard Heightman in 2005 and he survives.
Mary Ann was baptized into Christ in March of 1957 and became a member of the Pittsfield Church of Christ. She taught 2nd grade and the Ladies Class at the church for 43 years. Mary Ann loved to read and shared her love by teaching others to read and taught a literacy class for three years. She was also a volunteer at Illini Community Hospital for six years. Besides reading Mary Ann also loved to visit with people and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She was a great cook and her specialties were homemade noodles, pineapple rolls, cinnamon rolls and she made the best Pon Haus. Mary Ann and Dick loved to travel, her favorite place to go was Branson, where they had been over 20 times. She had been to 32 states and Canada, always loving their trips to the mountains.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband Richard Heightman, of Pittsfield, IL; one daughter Shirley Baker of Savannah, TN; one daughter-in-law, Connie Hammitt of rural Rockport, IL; three step children, Pat Waters, Donald Heightman, and Joe (Linda) Heightman all of Pittsfield, IL; seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren; one son-in-law Ed Clayborne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Darius Hammitt; one daughter, Sharon Clayborne; one son, Steve Hammitt; one granddaughter, Kim Bailey; two sons-in-law, Tracy J. Bailey and John Baker; five brothers, Sheldon, Sherman, Richard and Robert Shepherd; five sisters, Wilma McAllister, Mildred Waggoner, Helen Shelton, Verna Mae Johnson, and Dorothy Torrens.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL, with burial at the Summerhill Cemetery in Summerhill, IL. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to be made to the Pittsfield Church of Christ or St. Judes. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
