Dr. William E. Hopkins | 95 | Carrollton

Dr. William E. Hopkins, age 95, longtime veterinarian of Carrollton, IL, died Thursday evening, Feb. 2, 2023, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 5, 1927 in Keokuk, IA son of the late Leslie Earl and Mary Delaphene Pocock Hopkins.
He married Marjorie Campbell on March 3, 1957 in Mt. Pleasant, IA and she survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Pamela Hillis (Frank) of Carrollton, IL and Debra Roundcount (Ed) of Jerseyville, IL and a son William E. Hopkins II (Nancy) of St. Peters, MO; five grandchildren, Michelle Dyer (Rick) of Godfrey, IL, Dr. Travis Roundcount (Rhonda) of Decatur, IL, Jameson De Nagel (Brenda) of Benton, AR, Jaclyn Gianella (Rob) of Florissant, MO, Connor Hopkins of St. Peters, MO; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, George and Robert Hopkins.
Bill graduated from LaHarpe High School and following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving during W.W. II. Following the military, Bill attended the University of Illinois and graduated with his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1956 and later that year started his veterinary practice in Carrollton, IL. Bill loved serving his community for many years before his retirement in 2005.
Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, IL, with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery near Eldred, IL with military rites conducted by Tri County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Carrollton United Methodist Church or American Diabetes Assn. and sent to Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, Box 112, Carrollton, IL 62016. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.
